    Pineland Farms

    November 15th, 2008

Got to Pineland at 7:00, started running. Within 5 minutes I was feeling dizzy and out of sorts, and by 10 minutes in I was hallucinating. I ran back to my car, had gone just over a mile and a half total, and laid in the back for about 20 minutes (not quite). Got up, got back out for my run. I managed to get 5 miles in by 8:00 when I met up with Chuck, and we ran for an hour 45 together. I ran for another 30 minutes once he’d called it good so that I could get my 3 hours in, which netted me a little over 20 miles. Without the break early in the run I’d have had a little more.

I used some hornet juice before the run, but I didn’t eat or drink anything until after once I’d started. Felt okay; legs were pretty tight and sore but I kept running easy. About 3 or 4 hours after the run my back was pretty tight, so I’ll need to watch that.

    Lunch Loop

    November 14th, 2008

: Easy lunch loop run, lots of traffic, relatively wet. 6:31 measured .9 mile (7:15 pace) which was definitely slower than a couple of days ago, so 38 minutes on that run was a slow estimate (as I thought.)

    Pre-Coaching & Coaching Run

    November 13th, 2008

I was pretty busy today and didn’t get out of the house as early as I wanted to, but I managed to get to the store early enough to get my own run in before coaching. Perfect weather for running, but a little chilly for standing around. Light rain and temperatures in the 40s.

Random Run From Home (3rd for the Day)

    November 12th, 2008

Good run tonight. Dressed a little warm, but was able to regulate my temperature pretty well. Moved along at a pretty good clip most of the run. Had a little too much wine with dinner. Definitely ready to go to bed now.

    Lunch Loop

    November 12th, 2008

I didn’t wear a watch, and I’m pretty sure I ran faster than 7:15 pace, but 38 is a nice round number that is probably pretty close to reality. Run went well, great weather outside.

    Random Run from Home

    November 12th, 2008

Went out for a relatively easy hour this morning; put in a good pace and did just over 8 miles. Would have been nice to get 10 miles in, but maybe I’ll compensate by doing a triple today. Then I won’t have to run really late tonight.

    Twin Brooks

    November 11th, 2008

: Good run tonight. Got a couple miles in before everybody got there, and there was a decent crowd. Jim, Chuck, Erik, James, Jeff and a couple of dogs. My left heel was achy afterwards though, when I got home.

    Lunch Loop

    November 10th, 2008

My Nike shoes were still soaked from last week, so I wore the New Balances for the run (I’d worn them around today to walk in.) Measured mile was 6:5~ something, very windy along that stretch but not really for the rest of the run. Sunny day, perfect temperature from running.

    Bradbury Mountain

    November 9th, 2008

Today was interesting. Got to Bradbury, saw the ranger so I bought a park pass. (It’s good for almost all of the Maine State Parks, which is a bonus.) Now I don’t have to remember cash when I go to run there almost every week. Yay.

Ran for 25 minutes or so up to the top of the mountain and back down. Saw the ranger in the parking lot, so I chatted with her for 20 minutes or so before continuing my run.

Saw Val and Linda 8 miles or so into the run. Stopped my watch and forgot to restart it. Whoops. Did lots of running back and forth as Val and I ran ahead and then went back for Linda (her longest run ever, she’s doing great for just 6 months into her running career.)

On my watch, I had 10.75 miles and an hour 47. Add about 23 miles and 2+ miles for about my total distance. (ish)

    Pineland Farms Long Run

    November 8th, 2008

The first 14+ miles of today’s long run was in the North Face shoes.

Started at 7:00, met up with Allen and ran with him until 8:00 when I met up with Lilly, Jeff and Chuck. We did a short loop and met up with Allen’s family; his kids ran out ahead for a little while until they got tired and by the time we got back from to the cars (after another hour) they had left.

The trail was really wet, and the North Face’s aren’t that good at shedding water and the socks I was wearing was holding quite a bit so I didn’t want to do the entire 20 in those shoes, so I took them off at this point before continuing the run.

Continuing my run, I ran barefoot on the Oak Hill loop. The acorns were less than pleasant, but the run went pretty well for the most part. Chuck also went barefoot, and once we’d crossed the road Jeff took his shoes off and ran barefoot too. Got a little muddy, but they weren’t too bad by the time we got back to the cars after having run through the nice soft (wet) grass. Some pine needles were sticking to them and that was the worst of it.

I used gel packets at each stop at the car, at 1 hour and at 2:12.
